About the Artist

Sean Lamoreaux was born near Portland, Oregon but was raised primarily in Tucson, Arizona, where he developed an affinity for the Sonoran desert. Since childhood, his desert surroundings inspired his artistic proclivities, especially drawing. In early adulthood, he spent some time away from art (and away from Arizona) to explore other interests, including earning a BA in Film Studies while living in New York City. Eventually, he returned (for a time) to the region where he was raised, and fell in love all over again with the southwestern desert. That homecoming felt as if he was seeing the land with new eyes.
From then on, it became Sean’s passion to paint the landscape of the west. He received training in traditional methods, including two years of classes at the historic Palette & Chisel Academy of Fine Arts in Chicago, and one year in a classical atelier at Gage Academy of Art in Seattle. Sean is currently based in Seattle, where he lives with his partner. He visits Arizona a couple times a year, going on desert hikes for artistic inspiration, and even when he’s away from that environment, his painting helps him maintain his spiritual connection to it. He also looks to the northwestern deserts of eastern Washington and Oregon for ample inspiration. Alarmed by the environmental crises reeking havoc on our Western lands, Sean’s hope is that his paintings will help others see why the wild west, especially the desert, is beautiful and why it deserves to be conserved.
